OAKLAND, Calif. (May 25, 2005) –
Dennis Erokan, 54,
known for successful entrepreneurial initiatives including BAM Magazine, the BAMMIE awards and
MicroTimes Magazine has joined Oakland-based e-agency and will serve as the firm’s president.
Erokan will be responsible for managing the agency’s diverse operations. He will also be a member
of the firm’s management board which includes agency Chairman Dave Dunn and Vice Chairman Irv Hamilton.
"After 25 years of running a magazine publishing company, I'm excited to be on the other
side of the business, working with lots of clients to develop branding and marketing messages, Erokan said.
"E-agency offers an energy that is invigorating,"
"Dennis has demonstrated his ability to bring together people with diverse talents into an
effective organization," Dunn said, "We presently have a staff of 25 serving more than 60 clients. We’re continuing
to grow, and that leadership skill will be particularly valuable to us as we bring on additional staff and clients."
Hamilton observed, "We offer what is probably the broadest range of marketing-communication
services in the East Bay. These services range from traditional advertising, PR and collateral to branding and
sophisticated Internet-based communication. Dennis will be managing our staff to integrate all of those capabilities."
E-agency was founded in 1990 as Marketing Communication Associates (MCA).
Deciding to focus on electronic communication, the firm’s name was changed in 1999.
Dunn noted, "While the Internet has emerged as the focal point of marketing communication,
we realize that traditional marketing vehicles must also be integrated into our client’s plans. We’ve added
capabilities to be able to provide a full range of services. Dennis will be the liaison who brings together
our firm’s various talents for the benefit of our clients."
Erokan founded BAM Magazine in 1976. The publication pioneered free distribution at
point-of-purchase to a special-interest market.
In 1978, he produced the first Bay Area Music Awards, known as the BAMMIES.
He continues to produce the annual awards program.
In 1984, he launched MicroTimes, which became the nation’s largest regional computer magazine.
In all, he has published 10 magazines, all directed at specific niche markets.
He is active in local music and theatre programs, and is a volunteer supporting educational
and cultural events throughout Northern California.
Erokan served on the founding board of directors of The National Academy of
Songwriters in Los Angeles, and was also on the board of the Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco
and the Diablo Regional Arts Association. He was the president of the Center Stage Ticket Foundation,
which annually distributes tickets for sporting, educational and cultural events to underprivileged
children and adults throughout Northern California. He is the president of the Town Hall Theatre in Lafayette.
