Oakland City Center

Media Event - Building Introduction

Situation: e-agency has worked with the Shorenstein Company to promote leasing activity and special events at Oakland City Center since 1997 when the company acquired the complex. City Center boasts one million square feet of office space along with a variety of restaurants, retail shops and services, a complete athletic club, and parking for 1,600 cars.

In early 2000, the company made the strategic decision to build a 20-story office building in City Center, the first privately owned structure constructed in Oakland in over a decade.

Action: E-agency and Shorenstein have worked closely to make City Center the place to be for businesses in the Bay Area. The plan from the outset was to promote key attributes of the development - superb location, excellent access to mass transit and major freeways, and value-added Class A amenities ‹ at every opportunity.

555 City Center was a major announcement for all involved. e-agency was the force behind the planning and implementation of a major media event that drew regional and national media to the job site to learn about the new building and Oakland's newfound place in the sun.

Results: When the Shorenstein Company took over City Center, the vacancy rate was double digit. Today, existing office space is 99% leased, and Shorenstein spokespersons are the first called to comment on the business climate of Oakland. And City Center is a household name among brokers.
The half-hour 555 City Center announcement event garnered media attention exposure worth $285,000 in ad equivalencies. The building continues to evoke interest in commercial real estate circles nationwide
